Almost 200 employees of Chevron Philippines Inc. (CPI), marketer of Caltex fuels and lubricants, recently joined the 7th Amcham ScholaRUN, an annual fund-raising initiative of the American Chamber of Commerce Foundation Philippines, Inc. (ACCFPI), held at Central Park, SM Seaside Complex, Pasay City.

Around 3000 participants, – consisting of employees from ACCFPI member companies – gathered at 5:00 am to raise funds for AmCham Scholars for 2018. Participants can choose from; 3km track for P550, 5km track for P600 and 10km track for P650; with running kits and a medal upon finishing the chosen track.

“Chevron has been a partner of Amcham Foundation for ScholaRun since its inception. This is a perfect employee wellness engagement activity with the family and at the same comes with a purpose by funding the scholarship program of the foundation.” Said Atty. Raissa Bautista, Manager – Policy Government and Public Affairs, CPI.

Starting 1986 and every years since, ACCFPI has been giving scholarships to high school, college and vocational students in Metro Manila and nearby provinces. Through the support of member companies, scholars are given free tuition fees, uniforms, subsistence allowances, school supplies and project fees, up until their OJT and employment assistance. To date, the program has already helped about over 2000 scholarship youths graduate and secure gainful employment. A number of former-scholars are now employees of reputable Filipino and American firms.

“It started as a concept idea to raise fund to get more scholars. It has become a trademark of the American Chamber of foundation. A lot of people have worked very hard to put this event together. It’s quite an event by having around 3000 runners and I feel very proud. The presence and participation of our partners creates electricity and popularity to the event; which goes a long way towards helping us fund more and more scholars.” Said Edwin Feist, President of the American Chamber of Commerce.

CPI, through its partnership with the American Chamber of Commerce, and other social investment programs gives back to the community by supporting the future leaders of the society by providing access to livelihood training and education.
