The Philippine motorcycle industry sustained its strong momentum in the first quarter of 2026, recording total sales of 496,868 units from January to March—an 11.6% increase from 445,047 units in the same period last year. The continued growth highlights the sector’s vital role in everyday mobility, as more Filipinos turn to motorcycles as a practical solution to navigate increasingly congested roads and rising transportation costs.
Month-by-month performance reflected consistent gains, with January 2026 posting 166,703 units sold, up 7.8% from January 2025. February followed with 151,608 units, marking a 7.1% increase year-on-year. March delivered the strongest surge at 178,557 units, representing a significant 19.9% jump compared to March 2025. The figures cover sales from members of the Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association, Inc. (MDPPA), including Honda Motor Co., Ltd., Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Suzuki Motor Corporation, and Yamaha Motor Company.
Automatic motorcycles remained the dominant segment, driven by their ease of use and suitability for daily commuting. Demand also surged for business motorcycles, fueled by the steady expansion of delivery services and small enterprises that rely on two-wheel mobility. While mopeds and street motorcycles showed mixed performance, overall industry growth remained strong, supported by widespread demand across categories.
Industry analysts attribute the sustained growth to motorcycles’ affordability, fuel efficiency, and ability to maneuver through heavy traffic conditions. These advantages have made them an essential mode of transport for millions of Filipinos, especially those working in the gig economy and logistics sector. As urban congestion persists, motorcycles continue to provide a reliable and time-efficient commuting option.
The industry’s upward trajectory comes amid an ongoing fuel price challenge, further reinforcing motorcycles’ value as a cost-efficient alternative to larger vehicles. With lower fuel consumption and operating expenses, motorcycles are increasingly seen as a practical choice for both personal and business use. As noted by MDPPA President Erwin Estrada, the shift toward motorcycles is expected to accelerate in the coming months, as more Filipinos seek dependable and economical ways to stay mobile despite rising costs.
