Chevron Philippines Inc. (CPI), marketer of Caltex fuels and lubricants, led the annual Coastal Cleanup in San Pascual, Batangas, gathering 250 volunteers from employees, contractors, and community partners. Together, they collected 232 sacks of trash along the shoreline near the Chevron Batangas Terminal — a vital nesting ground for Olive-Ridley sea turtles. The initiative was held in observance of the International Coastal Cleanup Day and was supported by SRDC, CJI General Services Inc., 5G Security Inc. (5GS), the Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary (PCGA), MENRO, CENRO, and Barangay Danglayan.

Chevron Batangas Head Operator Mae Belle Albay emphasized the value of teamwork and collaboration in achieving a cleaner environment. “This cleanup shows what’s possible when the community, local government, and private sector work together with a shared purpose. The shoreline may be under Chevron’s operational area, but it’s a shared space that we all depend on — and we all have a responsibility to protect,” she said. The largest volunteer group, the Manila Shared Services Center (MSSC), collected 84 sacks of waste, followed by 5GS with 28 sacks, and Chevron employees and contractors with 59 sacks.

Beyond the one-day cleanup, Chevron continues its long-term commitment to sustainability. Since 2009, the company has organized annual cleanups in San Pascual, and since 2015, has shifted to smaller, more frequent cleanups to maintain lasting impact. “Sustainability means continuous effort,” Albay added. “By cleaning up more regularly, we prevent waste from piling up and protect the marine ecosystem more effectively.”

Chevron Batangas Terminal Manager Raymund Año reinforced the company’s environmental stewardship, noting that their responsibility extends beyond coastal cleanups. “We’re committed to integrating sustainable practices into our operations — even simple actions like eliminating bottled water in our terminal can make a big difference,” he said. Año also encouraged more volunteers and organizations to participate, emphasizing that “this is not just Chevron’s duty, but everyone’s responsibility.”
The cleanup also helps protect the Olive-Ridley sea turtles that nest along the San Pascual coastline between August and October. By clearing plastics and debris, volunteers ensure safer nesting grounds and support marine biodiversity. Chevron and its partners remain dedicated to sustaining these efforts, proving that collective action can protect both the environment and the communities that depend on it.
