As fuel prices continue to surge nationwide, Grab Philippines is stepping up with a comprehensive resilience strategy designed to protect both its driver- and rider-partners while supporting broader efforts to stabilize the transport sector. In collaboration with the Department of Transportation (DOTr), Grab is working to facilitate targeted fuel subsidies and is also accelerating its investments in electric vehicle (EV) adoption to ensure long-term sustainability in the face of ongoing volatility.
“Our priority is to provide immediate, targeted support, while also contributing to long-term efforts to make Philippine transport more resilient, stable, and less vulnerable to external volatility,” said Ronald Roda, Managing Director of Grab Philippines. To this end, Grab is introducing a Fuel Resilience Package that provides its most active driver and rider partners with exclusive fuel discounts at partner fuel stations. This is in addition to existing features like GrabMaps-powered trip optimization and in-app tools that promote fuel-efficient driving practices.
Grab is also continuing to provide accessible ride options through services like GrabCar Saver and subscription-based GrabUnlimited, which helps regular users save on both rides and deliveries. These platform features aim to cushion the impact of higher operational costs and keep transport affordable for the commuting public. “Affordability remains a core principle for us,” Roda emphasized. “By supporting our partners through the rising cost of fuel, we’re also protecting our passengers.”
Looking beyond short-term relief, Grab is ramping up its EV efforts. Following the launch of the GrabTaxi Electric fleet in Metro Manila, the company is now engaging EV manufacturers and policymakers to scale its electric mobility initiatives nationwide. These efforts are not meant to replace traditional fuel providers but rather complement existing infrastructure to broaden energy options and enhance transport resilience. “This is about future-proofing Philippine mobility,” said Roda, citing the need to diversify energy sources amid an increasingly complex global landscape.
For over a decade, Grab has played a vital role in expanding transport access and creating livelihood opportunities for tens of thousands of Filipinos. Now, it is sharpening its focus on long-term resilience by bridging public-private partnerships and deploying platform innovation. “We may not control the price of oil, but we can shape how we respond—as a platform, an industry, and a nation,” Roda concluded. “At Grab, our role is to protect livelihoods now while helping build a stronger, more stable transport future for Filipinos.”
