Street Racing Action at TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Philippine Cup Draws Over 12,000 Fans

  • Weekend spectacle features circuit races, GR driving exhibitions, Tamaraw Racing Concept debut, car meets, and OPM rock concerts

Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) successfully wrapped up the second Race Weekend of the 2025 TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Philippine Cup (TGR Philippine Cup), drawing in more than 12,000 motorsports fans to Villar City from May 23 to 25.

The weekend saw thrilling action across a custom-built 2.4-kilometer street circuit, featuring 14 corners—including hairpins and chicanes—that challenged racers in four classes: Novice, Sporting, Super Sporting, and Legacy.

One of the most talked-about moments was the dramatic crash of TMP President Masando Hashimoto, who was racing in the Novice Class for the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Philippines Novice Team. Hashimoto flipped his Vios OMR car after a barrier hit, but thanks to the car’s robust safety systems, he walked away unharmed.

“I lost my beloved Vios #4, but it saved my life,” said Hashimoto. “Toyota cars are safe, robust, and keep drivers protected.”

The Vios OMR has been used for 11 years in the TGR Philippine Cup (formerly Vios Cup), modified with roll cages, racing seats with 5-point harnesses, and fireproof gear for safety. These race learnings inform Toyota’s consumer car development, with safety features like Toyota Safety Sense, multiple airbags, and advanced control systems.

Toyota also debuted the Tamaraw Racing Concept, a track-modified Tamaraw Dropside, during the drag race exhibition. The event was further amplified with electrifying performances from Rico Blanco and Parokya ni Edgar (May 24)and Ely Buendia and Bamboo (May 25).
