Truck Manufacturers Association Calls for Clear Safeguards on Interim Euro II Fuel Introduction

The Truck Manufacturers Association Inc. (TMA) expressed its support for the Department of Energy (DOE) Department Circular No. DC 2026-03-0010, which allows the interim introduction of Euro II/2 petroleum products to help address current global fuel supply challenges. While recognizing the need to ensure adequate fuel availability, TMA emphasized that the measure must be implemented with clear guidelines, proper safeguards, and comprehensive public information to protect consumers and the automotive sector.

TMA highlighted that many modern vehicles in the Philippines, particularly those compliant with Euro IV/4 standards, are designed with advanced fuel and emission systems that are highly sensitive to fuel quality. The use of higher-sulfur Euro II/2 fuels may negatively affect engine performance, durability, and emissions control components. As such, the association stressed the importance of providing clear and accessible guidance to the public on vehicle compatibility, along with the strict and consistent implementation of advisory requirements across all fuel retail stations.

The association also called for stronger collaboration among industry stakeholders and government agencies to ensure proper dissemination of technical information and public awareness. TMA underscored that while the interim use of Euro II/2 fuels may be necessary, it should remain time-bound, closely monitored, and aligned with the country’s long-term commitment to cleaner, more efficient, and environmentally sustainable fuel standards.
