The Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI) has officially signed the E-Commerce Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with leading online platforms, reinforcing its commitment to consumer protection and vehicle safety. The signing, witnessed by the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL), aims to combat the proliferation of counterfeit automotive products sold online and uphold industry safety standards nationwide.
Present at the ceremony were CAMPI President Atty. Rommel R. Gutierrez and IPOPHL Acting Director General Nathaniel S. Arevalo, together with representatives from major e-commerce platforms including Shopee, Lazada, and TikTok Shop. The participating platforms expressed strong support for the collaboration, underscoring the shared responsibility of government, industry, and digital marketplaces in protecting consumers.

Gutierrez highlighted that the MOU signing is especially meaningful as CAMPI marks its 30th anniversary this year. He emphasized that the initiative aligns with CAMPI’s Road and Vehicle Safety Pillar, noting that addressing the issue of counterfeit automotive parts is critical to ensuring safer vehicles on Philippine roads and protecting motorists from substandard products.
Effective since 2021, the E-Commerce MOU establishes a Code of Practice to address counterfeit and pirated goods sold online, supported by efficient Notice and Takedown (NTD) procedures facilitated by IPOPHL. With the country’s vehicle fleet reaching around 5.8 million units in 2024, CAMPI recognizes the growing aftermarket demand and the need to strengthen intellectual property protection while promoting a culture of compliance and safety within the automotive industry.
IPOPHL Acting Director General Arevalo commended CAMPI’s participation, stressing that choosing authentic spare parts is a commitment to safety, quality, and accountability. As CAMPI celebrates three decades of service, the organization reaffirms its mission to lead the automotive industry toward greater innovation, consumer protection, and road safety through stronger partnerships with government agencies and private sector stakeholders.
