Champion Rider Backs Stronger Protection for Motorcycle Consumers

The Philippine motorcycle industry continues to accelerate in the post-pandemic era, with an impressive 447,865 new two-wheel vehicles added to the country’s roads in the first quarter of 2025 alone.

Two-time Philippine Superbike Champion and long-time motorcycle safety advocate Raniel Resuello highlighted the vital role motorcycles play in the country’s economy and mobility landscape. He also emphasized the urgent need for stronger representation of the motorcycle sector in Congress.

“This surge in motorcycle sales is a testament to Filipinos’ deep passion for riding,” Resuello said. “Motorcycles not only enhance local tourism but also play a crucial role in transporting people, goods, and services—powering economic activity nationwide.”

As a nominee of the Serbisyo sa Bayan Partylist (SBP) in the 2025 midterm elections, Resuello is advocating for comprehensive rider protection and a shift in public perception of motorcyclists.

“Often, what we see on the news are crashes, illegal street racing, and reckless riding. Unfortunately, this creates a stigma around all riders,” he said. “We want to show the other side—that motorcycles are an economic force and the industry continues to grow.”

Resuello has vowed to champion consumer protection for riders, pushing for better access to affordable, high-quality safety gear, motorcycle parts, and training programs that promote rider welfare and safety.

“We need to provide accessible training for both new and seasoned riders, focusing on road safety and proper conduct,” he added. “This ensures not only the safety of riders but also of pedestrians and fellow motorists. It will also help reduce incidents of road rage and make riding more enjoyable for everyone.”

The Serbisyo sa Bayan Partylist is the only partylist in the 2025 elections focused on consumer rights and protection, including the rights of motorcycle riders—a timely platform as online scams and e-commerce-related fraud continue to rise.

Resuello remains active in motorcycle events across the country, promoting his advocacy and mentoring riders who seek to enhance their skills with a strong emphasis on safety and road courtesy.

Currently, an estimated 8,000 new motorcycles are sold daily in the Philippines, contributing to a total of over 10 million registered motorcycles nationwide—and counting.
