When we got invited to the first-ever media ride by Vespa Philippines, we just had to drop everything we’re doing and respond with a resounding YES PLEASE!
Just in case you’re not yet aware, the iconic Italian scooter brand is no longer under a distributorship but is now managed by its mother company, Piaggio Philippines. With Piaggio holding the reins, we can expect more exciting developments for Vespa, such as touring rides for the media. While Vespa is a brand that needs no introduction, not all, moto scribes or otherwise, are intimately acquainted with its models and the profound riding experience they offer.

I’ve had the privilege of riding the Vespa Sprint 180 Livrea 80 on a two-day journey from Vespa Mandaluyong to Tagaytay, and back, and I immediately realized that it’s a such a significant step up from the previous 150cc platform, even more so than my personal Primavera.
Here’s how the Sprint 180 Livrea 80 will tug at the heartstrings of the Vespisti.
1. Exclusive Styling and Eye-Catching Colorway
The first thing that grabs your attention is the Livrea 80’s distinctive styling. Its special anniversary livery combines classic Vespa elegance, creating a scooter that feels both premium and exclusive. The unique colorway, accented by commemorative badge and detailing, sets it apart from the standard Sprint range. It’s a machine that turns heads whether parked at a café or in my case, cruising on the long stretches of Aguinaldo Highway.

2. Noticeably Peppier Than Its 150cc Predecessor
The jump from the previous 150cc engine to the new 180cc powerplant brings a welcome boost in performance. Acceleration feels stronger across the rev range, making overtaking easier and highway cruising effortless. Riders coming from the 150 platform will immediately notice the added punch, especially when carrying a passenger or tackling steep inclines.
3. Lighter and More Responsive Handling
Despite the larger engine, the Sprint 180 feels surprisingly agile. Dare I say, it felt as flickable as an S125. Filtering through morning rush hour in Mandaluyong and Las Pinas felt less of a chore and it was right in its element when exploring the winding back roads of Tagaytay. The improved maneuverability will definitely make every day riding more enjoyable, despite the constant chaos in the urban jungle.

4. Better Build Quality
Vespa has always been known for its steel monocoque construction, but the Livrea 80 raises the bar even further. Panel gaps are tighter, switchgear feels more premium, and the overall fit-and-finish exudes luxury. From the paintwork to the trim pieces, every detail felt well put together. The result is a ride that offers not only a lasting design but also quality.

5. New Tech for the Old Soul
The Sprint 180 Livrea 80 combines classic styling with modern convenience. A fully digital display delivers clear ride information at a glance, while smartphone connectivity enables access to notifications and additional riding data through the Vespa app ecosystem. These features make the scooter feel current and connected without detracting too much from its timeless design. I still prefer an analog panel but hey, it’s the perfect blend of heritage and modern functionality.

Verdict
The Vespa Sprint 180 Livrea 80 is more than a commemorative model. Its exclusive styling, stronger 180cc performance, lighter handling, improved build quality, and upgraded technology make it a genuine step forward from the Sprint 150. For riders looking for a premium urban scooter that celebrates Vespa’s legacy while embracing modern advancements, the Livrea 80 is easily one of the most compelling Vespas available today.
