AAP Enhances Philippine Rallycross Series to Elevate Rallying’s Profile

Now entering its ninth year, the Philippine Rallycross Series (PHRX) receives a significant boost from the Automobile Association Philippines (AAP) aimed at further elevating the status of rallying in the country.

Since its inception in 2015, PHRX has been at the forefront of organizing rally and rallycross events, playing a pivotal role in reviving the cherished motorsport discipline of rallying within the local landscape. AAP, serving as the national sporting authority in the Philippines and the local representative of the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), lends its support to this endeavor.

In the recently concluded Round three of the 2024 Philippine Rallycross Series held in Cavite, AAP Motorsports Committee Chairman Mandy Eduque graced the event, demonstrating AAP’s commitment to the series.

Expressing his excitement about the burgeoning state of the motorsport discipline in the country, Eduque remarked, “I was thoroughly impressed. The turnout for the event was remarkable, with 53 competitors. Even during the peak years of rallying in the 80s and 90s, we never witnessed such a high number of entries. This turnout reaffirms that rallying is indeed making a comeback.”

Following the event, AAP and PHRX convened to discuss ongoing initiatives aimed at enhancing event management practices and promoting rallying effectively. Present at the meeting were AAP President Joe Ferreria, Philippine Rallycross Series Race Organizer Olson Camacho, AAP Vice President David Arcenas, AAP Motorsports Chairman Mandy Eduque, AAP CEO Mark Desales, and Head of AAP Motorsports Rikki Dy-Liacco.

To kickstart these efforts, AAP will host the fourth round of the 2024 PHRX on April 6, 2024, at the CCP Open Grounds. This round, dubbed “The Jun Espino Memorial Rallycross,” pays homage to one of the stalwarts of Philippine motorsport, Jun Espino, who dedicated himself to the sport from the 1970s until his untimely demise. The event coincides with one of the most prestigious car exhibitions in the country, the 2024 Manila International Auto Show.

“The strategic timing of hosting the event alongside the 2024 MIAS will provide rallying with increased exposure to a broader audience of car enthusiasts. We are proud to present this official round of the Philippine Rallycross Series and honor the memory of Jun Espino,” remarked AAP Motorsports Head Rikki Dy-Liacco.
