Five Colorado Riding Gloves Review

There plenty of motorcycle gear options out there that offer a variety of safety features. Yet, some of them have sacrificed comfort and functionality in order to cram in all that protection, to a point that wearing them has become extremely cumbersome. This has somewhat defeated the purpose as the best protective gear is the one that you will actually use.

The Colorado motorcycle gloves is a testament that there are times when less is more. With its full genuine leather construction, it does offer basic protection but you also get that second-skin feel and all-day comfort. Sure, it does not have knuckle protectors and palm sliders but it does have better abrasion resistance than most textile riding gloves. Made by French manufacturer Five Gloves, the Colorado comes C.E. certified.

Aside from the comfort it offers, what entices the rider to constantly wear these protective gloves is its elegant classic styling. The perforations on top of the finger areas are not only aesthetic but for ventilation as well. I felt cool air gently blow into the inside of the gloves whenever I am on the move. This is quite “handy” (excuse the pun) when riding in a tropical country like ours. In my experience with leather gloves, though, tearing on the material usually starts in perforated areas. I am hoping this isn’t the case with the Colorado.

I’ve been using them for several days now and it requires no break-in period like most leather apparel. The material is soft and has a bit of a stretch to it so it practically conforms to the unique shape of a rider’s hands. Velcro straps and garterized gussets on the inside of the wrists allow a custom fit without hampering full range of motion. Basic as it is, the Colorado does not come with touchscreen patches but it was a delight to discover that I could still operate my smart phone even with the gloves on. They are literally made of skin after all.

The Colorado also comes in dark brown and black but I found this beige/maroon color scheme the most eye-catching. The price tag of P2,750 for a C.E. rated genuine leather gloves offers good enough value if you consider the comfort and styling that comes with it.
