Motorcycle Taxi Pilot Study Ends in May, operations may continue while legalization takes place says TWG

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Motorcycle Taxi Technical Working Group (MC Taxi-TWG) will submit its final report to Congress for the legalization of motorcycle taxis following a 4-year pilot study on May 31, 2024.

According to Atty. Vincent Austria of the MC Taxi Technical Working Group, moto taxi is viable source of income for approximately 70,000 current motorcycle riders. Meanwhile, LTFRB Chairman Teofilo Guadiz III stated that the operation of MC Taxis will continue while awaiting the enactment of laws regarding it.

It is emphasized that there is a need for safety standards to ensure that this becomes a fully viable mobility option for Filipino commuters.

All of these developments were discussed during the Butch Gamboa Memorial Forum of the Society of Philippine Motoring Journalists (SPMJ), held at the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX).
