Nissan’s Commitment to Formula E GEN4 Reinforces Ambition 2030 Electrification Plans: Japanese OEM to Compete in All-Electric FIA World Championship until 2030

Nissan has pledged its commitment to the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship until at least 2030, aligning with its Ambition 2030 electrification plans. The partnership, spanning Seasons 13 (2026/27) to 16 (2029/30), emphasizes Formula E’s role as a leading laboratory for electric mobility solutions.

During a press conference in Tokyo preceding Japan’s inaugural Formula E race, Nissan Formula E Team’s managing director and team principal, Tommaso Volpe, officially registered Nissan for Seasons 13 to 16, alongside FIA Senior Circuit Sport Director Marek Nawarecki and Formula E CEO Jeff Dodds. This agreement solidifies Nissan’s commitment as the first manufacturer confirmed for GEN4 technology in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship until 2030.

This decision extends Nissan’s Formula E involvement to a minimum of 12 years, marking its lengthiest commitment to an FIA World Championship. As Formula E provides an ideal platform for Nissan to develop electric vehicle technology and compete at the highest level, this move underscores Nissan’s Ambition 2030, a strategic plan aimed at becoming a fully electrified car manufacturer. The plan includes introducing 34 electrified models between fiscal years 2024 and 2030, with electrified vehicles projected to constitute 40% of Nissan’s global model mix by fiscal year 2026 and 60% by the decade’s end.

Nissan’s participation in the next generation of Formula E underscores its dedication to sustainable racing, aligning with its broader environmental objectives. The GEN4 technology boasts cutting-edge features, including enhanced energy efficiency and safety innovations, advancing electric vehicle racing technology significantly. Nissan, the FIA, and Formula E share a common vision for electrification, making this agreement a significant milestone for the future of electric motorsport.

Since joining Formula E ahead of Season 5, Nissan has continuously expanded its Formula E operations, culminating in the recent relocation of the Nissan Formula E Team headquarters to the Paris area, providing access to top-tier facilities.

As a global brand, Nissan’s presence spans every country on the current Formula E calendar, promoting EV technology worldwide. Nissan’s commitment to Formula E until 2030 underscores the championship’s importance to Nissan globally and its role in advancing accessible electric vehicles, fostering a cleaner, safer, and more inclusive world.

Makoto Uchida, CEO of Nissan Motor Corporation, remarked, “We’re extremely pleased to continue our involvement in Formula E until 2030. In addition to bringing excitement and spectacle to our fans, our participation will significantly contribute to our Ambition 2030 plans for electrification. The technological advancements made on the track will inform the development of our future products, furthering our commitment to a sustainable world.”
