Origine Vega – Neo-Retro Helmets

Just like our motorcycles, the helmets we choose to wear reflect our individual personalities. For an old soul like me, it is but natural that I would gravitate towards those lids with classic styling. Unfortunately, most neo-retro helmets in the market today have very restrictive price tags. Most, but not all.

The Origine Vega is an ECE rated motorcycle crash helmet that is reminiscent of the ‘70s era. It looks like something Evel Knievel would wear during his stunt routine. I like the solid color (not a big fan of crazy graphics) and the conventional round shape. The shell is made of fiber glass for better impact absorption and to lessen weight as well. I could wear the Vega all day without any complaints. The soft faux suede inner lining also adds comfort.

While it is a full face helmet, the peep hole or lens area is wider than most lids with modern styling. The Vega allows for a wide range of peripheral vision that is almost similar to an open face helmet. The advantage is that you still have a chin bar for added protection. Initially I was worried about wind noise, as logic dictates that anything with a wide opening will scoop in more air when on the move. Yet, the face shield on the Vega seals nicely when closed so wind noise only gets noticeable when running above 80 kilometers per hour.

To complete the entire look, the Origine Vega comes with a double-d ring buckle to fasten the strap. Unbuckling it might pose as a challenge especially when wearing a glove but I personally prefer it over the plastic quick release straps. I don’t know, it just feels more secure. I have noted that the Vega tends to fit loosely compared to other helmets so I suggest you opt for one size smaller than your usual or better yet, visit any SEC Motosupply outlet to get a proper fit.
