Quick Helmet Review: FTR FF861 Lion

There’s a new helmet brand that is currently gaining traction in the local motorcycle scene not only because of their eye-catching shell designs but also for their adherence to international safety standards. FTR helmets has recently introduced their first helmet model in the Philippine market, the FTR FF861 Full Face Dual Visor helmet.

The FTR FF861 comes in 8 designs and this writer has had the pleasure of having first dibs on their FF861 Lion. The vivid colors and design will immediately win you over at first glance. However, the features of this awesome lid go beyond skin deep:

– Advanced Thermo Polymer Shell

– Safety certified to ECE 22.05 & DOT approved standards

– Quick-release retention strap

– Dual visor technology

– Toughened dual-pane lens

– Pinlock ready

– Wide field of view

– Optimized airflow system

– Watertight magnetic lens seal

– Emergency release cheek padding

– Ventilation control. Adjustable open / close vents

– Intercom slot ready

The FTR FF861 Lion comes with an amber mirrored outer lens with a built-in retractable smoked inner lens. I found the amber lens suitable when riding under overcast skies. These types of colored lenses help improve the rider’s visual acuity during low light conditions. When it is bright and sunny, the inner smoke lens help reduce glare.

FTR claims that the FF861 shell design reduces up to 60% wind noise, though what I noticed was it also reduces ambient noise especially when riding around busy city streets. The inner lining material feels luxurious and the foam padding retains its shape even when soaked with perspiration. FTR assures that the padding of their helmets will not degrade even after multiple washes.

What I particularly liked about the FF861 Lion is its compatibility to riders who wear prescription eyeglasses. The inside padding has slots on each side where the temples of any eyewear will fit in nicely.
