Historic Triumph: Shana Tamayo Shines at Loretta Lynn Motocross, Tamayo Twins Excel at GlenHelen Nationals

Once again, the remarkable talent of Filipino riders shone brightly during the 2023 MxMessiah USA trip, particularly in the qualifying rounds of the prestigious Mammoth Motocross and Loretta Lynn National Motocross events. The Mammoth Motocross, held in Mammoth Mountains, California, and the Loretta Lynn Motocross, located in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee, are annual competitions that draw the world’s top amateur riders. Qualifying for these events is a remarkable achievement in itself. Shana Tamayo (Women Motocross) and Joshua Tamayo (65cc Limited & Modified) demonstrated their skills and determination, securing their spots in the Mammoth Motocross. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, the Mammoth Mountains race was rescheduled, preventing their participation.

Nevertheless, 13-year-old Shana Tamayo qualified in the Girls 11-16 category, earning her ticket to the renowned Loretta Lynn Motocross. She became the first homegrown Filipino to achieve this feat, marking a historic moment in motorsport from a third-world country. Shana Tamayo finished an impressive P27 overall among the world’s top Girls aged 11-16 riders, garnering recognition from various US-based motorsports media, thanks to KojieSan, her first sponsor who believed in her abilities. Meanwhile, the Tamayo Twins, Joshua and Caleb, excelled in the 65cc Age overall championship and secured Third Overall in the 65cc Beginner category at the summer series of the renowned GlenHelen National Track in San Bernardino, California.

This outstanding performance by Filipino riders underscores our global competitiveness and emphasizes the importance of discovering and supporting local talents, enabling them to participate in international competitions. MX Messiah has consistently recognized the potential and confidence of Filipino riders and played a pivotal role in nurturing emerging talents. Therefore, it’s crucial to continue identifying and developing riders through pocket races as a platform for grooming them to compete on the global stage. Congratulations to the Tamayo Kids – Shana, Joshua, and Caleb – for proudly representing our nation at the 2023 MxMessiah USA Trip. Mabuhay!
